The War Within

By Brant W. Fowler

We are in war.

No military units march through the streets.

No missiles fly through our air space.

There aren’t armies invading our shores,

Dropping bombs on our houses.

We aren’t being taken prisoner in our own land.

No one is demanding us to concede with threats of death.

Yet, we are at war.

We are at war with each other.

No foreign country will be credited with our defeat.

Our pride alone would ensure that.

But we will fall with only ourselves to blame.

No outside force has to bring war within our borders.

We breed it within ourselves.

Sure, we unite in crisis, unaware of the true threat.

Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed for far less than we boast of.

Our nation, founded under God and His principles has left His ways.

We war against ourselves and leave our enemies to scoff at us.

But more than that, we have put ourselves at war with God.

Woe unto us, for we have never known war until now.
