OBSERVATION

By Brant W. Fowler

In observation I have discovered many things.

The way bells whistle,

The way phones ring.

But more importantly, the attributes of life.

Not life in general, mind you, but that of the individual.

Many are short, many are tall.

Many have hair, some are bald.

Some like sweet, some like sour.

Some hate meat, some devour.

Some talk, some don’t.

Some will, some won’t.

A few are sweet, most are cruel.

Some are backward, some think they’re cool.

Some try to impress, others are themselves.

Some attempt to express, others hide themselves.

Some are artistic, poetic or enigmatic.

Others are flamboyant, sadistic or fanatic.

Some are vindictive and malicious,

Sanctimonious, cruel and vicious.

Some are loving, kind, sweet and divine.

Some are beautiful as doves.

Others are somewhat lacking thereof.

Some are perfectly shaped.

Others are imperfectly misshaped.

Some are greedy, spoiled, ruthless and piased.

These are the ones who seem to succeed.

Others are generous, giving, understanding and humble.

These are the ones who exceed.

The list goes on and on in description of such

Unsavory comparisons, contrasting what is perceived as good and what is considered bad.

What I have found is that we are backwards.

What is good and what is bad?

Is it bad to be sweet, loving and kind?

Is it wrong to be generous and sublime?

Is it a crime to look less than perfect or lack a physical trait?

Should we punish those with pure hate?

Hate unjustified at that.

We hate what is different or what we wish to be but are not.

This is my observation in most cases

If we are mean we hate those who are kind.

But if we are kind we love those who are mean.

If we are greedy we hate those who are humble.

But if we are humble, we love and pity those who are greedy.

If we are on top of the world we are miserable and jealous of those at the bottom.

But if we are at the bottom, in most cases, we realize we are better off considering the cost of getting to the top.

We would much rather be happy than filthy rich and miserable.

But many would profess that happiness is found in wealth, power and authority.

I say, Nay!  Happiness comes from love, honor, humility and friendship.  It comes from God.

This in turn gives us far better riches and greater power than one can imagine.

The world was founded on love at first, then greed, now power.

But love will survive.

Greed will deprive.

My observations have taught me that I am better off poor.

But if I can remain as I am in a state of wealth I will not complain.

My fear is that the lies and falsehoods that have corrupted this world through money would corrupt me.

My fear, though, is unfounded because due to my observations I have discovered I have a gift.

As I have watched and learned, seen and heard

I have discovered;

I have uncovered

A greater thing which lies within me

That will ensure my heart will remain unchanged, generous and loving.

For within me is a greater power than the world could ever comprehend.

“What is this great power?” you ask?  It’s simple, my friend.

Though my observations have taught me that it’s the absolute last thing most will realize.

This power I have that gives me strength, peace, joy and hope

This marvelous light that ensures I remain generous, kind-hearted, loving and humble even when I’m blessed

It has been around longer than time itself.

“What is it? What is it?” you cry, but you will not receive it.

“Yes I will! Yes I will!’ you exclaim, but your heart is full of greed.

Only with love and acceptance will this gift be bestowed.

Do you want it?  “Yes”, you say.

Turn to God and you shall have it.

“What?” Give your life to God.  “No way!”

My observation in life is this:

The average individual continually refuses the very thing they so desperately seek: The Answer.
