ASPIRATIONS

By Brant W. Fowler

Many things in life have I longed to do,

Though few of them I ever followed through.

To write books, learn a foreign language , play the piano…

These are but a few dreams I have failed.

To become a singer, play a movie role…

So many things have I let slip away.

I’ve listened to the critics who say “Get a real job.”

But half-heartedly have I taken their advice.

My heart tells me to go another way.

I have suffered for my convictions.

I’ve lost many friends and much respect.

But they are happy settling in life.

I can’t live that way.

I am destined for greater things.

Things I refuse to let go.

Should the entire world stand against me,

I will travel the path my heart wishes to go.

A writer, a singer, an actor, and whatever else I choose

Will be what I become; for they are who I am.

A dreamer with aspirations that will be followed through.
