American Idol

Forgot to include this one in my last post of shows watched. Yep, reality TV for me. I also forgot Smallville and Supernatural (which returns this week!), but I digress.

Man, tonight's elimination was a shocker! I did not see that one coming. I get it, I just was surprised. Vocally, she's one of the best this season, and I had her (Carly Smithson) in my top three. I thought for sure Brooke White and Jason Castro would be in the bottom three, but I guess their fans, sensing that they had a horrible week this week, voted like crazy and got them saved for another week.

Carly got on my nerves week in, week out though. Not because of her singing, but because of her personality. She was very bland for weeks, and every time she sang there was no connect with the crowd, and she always looked so intense and almost angry when she sang. Then, the past couple of weeks, almost in answer to that concern, she has been overly jovial and giddy. I think she tried way too hard to overcome the first stigma, and I think she was a victim of people voting heavily for other contenders. I'm sure she'll be alright.

I like Brooke White and Jason Castro, but they had bad performances this week. I agree with Paula, I don't think you should ever stop and start again when singing, that's just not professional. And being Broadway week, I can't imagine someone in Rent or whatever stopping and restarting a song during a live show. They wouldn't last long on Broadway if that happened.

I thought Syesha did good this week, but I just don't think she's as good as she thinks she is sadly.

The two Davids are still my picks for the finale, and while it could go either way, I'm giving the nod to Archuletta. Cook will be okay regardless. Brooke will probably be top three now if she can pull out some more good performances. Next week Syesha will go, then Jason.

That's my prediction anyway.

Quickie

It's the weekend, so I thought I'd post a quick little ditty here.

Comic Book Resources (CBR - www.comicbookresources.com) relaunched their site earlier this week with a brand new design, and I have to say it looks pretty spiffy. Good luck getting it to load, though, I've tried since yesterday morning with little success. Supposedly they're on a new server that's making things run smoother... or was making things run smoother...

Comic Related (www.comicrelated.com) has become one of my daily visits as it's just a cool site that is updated every day of the year. For the month of march they had 1.2 million hits, so they are growing steadily and have great content and a thriving forum community.

Battlestar Galactica returned for it's final season last night picking things up right where last season left off. It was a solid and entertaining episode in my opinion. Things seem to really be coming to a head on all fronts, so I'm excited to see where this season goes.

I'm still enjoying the book I'm reading, The Servants of Twilight, by Dean Koontz. I'm 53 chapters in and things are still keeping my interest.

Iron Man is less than a month away!

On the lettering front, everything's going smoothly, progressing nicely. I'm available for jobs if anyone's hiring!

I wish I could figure out how some of my contemporaries are making money online through blogs or whatever, but I just haven't been too successful myself. Some of the methods I have employed have not yet been that fruitful. I'm going to keep trying though...

Nothing on TV tonight, whatever will I do? What's that you say, get a life? What's that? :)

Health wise I'm doing ok. Had a semi-rough day yesterday, and allergies hit me this week, but nothing major and no attacks. I'm still watching what I eat, though I have gotten a bit braver in small increments, testing stuff. I've discovered a few things I can't do (like peas), and I'm still largely staying away from pop and most sweets and snack foods like chips. Gall stones bite!

My picks for American Idol right now are the two Davids (Archuletta and Cook), Carly Smithson, Brooke White and Michael Johns for the top 5. Beyond that it'll be tough.

Digital Webbing's talent search feature took a hit this week as scammers have made a residence there, forcing Ed Dukeshire to reevaluate the system. For now, all talent search links go straight to the Help Wanted forum. It's a shame a couple of idiots have to ruin a great feature for everyone.

And I guess that's about it for now. I hope you all have a wonderful, fun-filled, and/or relaxing weekend!

Ice and Idol

Well, the ice storm isn't THAT bad yet, but they did cancel school and various activities tomorrow, so the roads must be a bit treacherous. We've still got power, though, so that's a good thing.

As for American Idol, well, I was really close! Of the guys, Garrett went home, as I thought he would. But I was surprised that Luke didn't. However, when Chikezie and Colton were called up there, I thought for sure it would be Chikezie, but I was wrong. So Colton and Garrett were eliminated.

Now, Colton's performance wasn't great, but I personally thought it was better than the ones by Luke, Chikezie and Jason. Maybe his personality got him voted off? I mean he is kind of bland and vanilla, so who knows?

As for the girls, I was almost right on the money. I picked three bottom girls and named two of them to go home. Well, two of those three did go home, but I got Joanne and Kristy switched in my prediction.

The competition is still fairly where I thought it would be, and so far, America isn't voting too badly. Hopefully that continues.

American Idol

Yep, I'm hijacking my own blog to talk American Idol. Hey, I like the show, and if I had the chance I would have auditioned before I passed the age limit. In fact, my little cousin said she was going to kidnap me and make me audition next year regardless of my age. Yeah, we'll see. 31 year old Brant (b-day's next month) auditioning for American Idol to compete with 16-28 year olds. Yep, they'll tell me to hit the road...

Anyway, tonight is the first elimination of the top 24. Four people will go home (two guys, two girls). From what I've read online, most think the girls (last night) outdid the boys (Tuesday night) this week. I completely disagree. The bottom 2 of the guys was very clear cut for me, while the girls were a little unclear as there were more than two (more like 5) that could go home.

In my opinion, Garrett and Luke are the guys going home if America voted correctly. Chikezie and Jason would be my next picks, but Garrett and Luke were terrible. At least Chikezie and Jason sang okay - they were just boring.

As for the girls, I hate to say it, but Kristy Lee Cook and Joanne Borgella were my least favorites of the night, followed closely by Amy Davis. Two of those three will go in my opinion, and I'd say Joanne will be the one to stay, but not for her talent. I didn't really care for Brook or Amanda either, though, but I think they are both talented. Heck, I think Kristy and Amy are talented too, but just had really bad nights.

So who did good this week? Well, of the guys, my favorites were David Archuleta, Michael Johns and Jason Castro for different reasons. David is just an amazing singer, while Johns has an awesome voice and unaware confidence. Jason I liked because he was different and not afraid to be himself. He stood out in a good way.

As for the girls, I loved Alaina's performance and her vocals. She, Syesha and Ramiele were the best of the night for me. Kady I thought had a really bad night, and she's got some maturing to do personality wise (she seemed mad at the judges' comments, and that could cost her tonight). Carly was really good as well, I just don't care for her personally. She's got amazing talent, and she probably was one of the best also, just something about her I don't get.

I missed a few, like David Cook and Alexandrea Lushington, who were both unique and good.

Right now my top 12 are David Archuleta, David Cook, David Hernandez, Jason Castro, Michael Johns, Danny Noriega, Ramiele Malubay, Alaina Whitaker, Syesha Mercado, Asia'h Epperson, Carly Smithson and Brooke White. We'll see how close I am as the weeks progress.

In Case You're Wondering...

I'm lettering and doing logos, and have been for a few days, and will continue doing so throughout the week, while also working out some other exciting stuff that I've alluded to here recently.

That's really all that's up with me.

Oh, and watching Lost of course, and American Idol. What can I say, I'm hooked!
