NaNoWriMo

So, everyone's talking about National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), even Yahoo! For those unaware, it's a fun excercise started 7 years ago where writers take one month, the month of November naturally, to crank out a complete 50,000 word novel.

Sounds like a lot, huh? Well it is. To keep on schedule you would roughly have to produce 1,600 words a day, or about six pages. Yet thousands upon thousands of people participate each year. The object is quantity, not quality. It can be any genre and is known for its sense of being a community project. You can set up a blog through the site (linked in the post title) and share your chapters and get feedback, and you can give feedback to others.

The project began yesterday, I just didn't have a chance to post about it. I have not signed up, though I seriously thought about it (am thinking about it?). But for all you other writers out there, you're only one day behind. There's still time to get started. And from my understanding it doesn't really have to be from scratch. It could be something you've already started. I could be wrong though, so check it out for yourselves.

As for me, I really wanted to do this just to get my creative juices flowing and see if I had what it takes to complete a novel. But with taking time off one of the columns and all the lettering work and holidays coming up I just don't know if right now is the best time for me to jump into it.

I'll make a definite decision today at some point as I wouldn't want to get too far behind. Maybe I should do it even if I don't finish. It would give me an excuse to finally start that novel I've somewhat plotted out. I guess you'll all find out whether I do or not soon. The question is will you give it a shot?
