The Waiting Game
As some of you know I have been having some computer problems lately. First I started having problems with my hard drive, then I found out it was my slave (secondary) drive causing the problems. So I've potentially lost 80gigs of files, but luckily they weren't overly important and I could acquire them all again I think.
Then my RAM was used completely and all my programs stopped working. Despite my efforts to move as much stuff as I could to CDs to free up space so the allocated virtual memory would have more room, it still did me no good. And because I live in a rinky-dink city at the moment all the stores around were sold out or didn't carry memory chips!
Today one of them (Circuit City) is supposed to have a shipment coming in, so we'll see. I was going to get 128mb or 256mb upgrade, but they highly recommended a 512mb upgrade for what I'm doing, and since it's only $15 higher thant the 256mb I figure why not?
Some online tech support told me I should really upgrade my hard drive as well (the current one I have is only a 40 gig one (I thought it was a 28gig, but that was another one I don't have anymore) and I've now got about 14 gigs free after moving 7 gigs to CD last night). But hard drives are expensive, and it was either the memory or the hard drive. I really need the memory more, so hopefully that will solve my problem until I can get the hard drive later on.
In Wannabez news I'm still waiting to hear from a couple of the team members. All three of them (the artist and the two colorists) have hit a really busy streak in their personal and professional lives, which has limited their time and ability to work on WBZ, which I totally understand. They have been really great, especially Scott who has stuck with me for a long time and has worked hard on the project. Luckily I have a lot of other stuff to occupy my time while waiting.
And one of those things is Aroquin, the concept I entered into SPIdol that got knocked out. The artist and I decided to continue working on it, but I've been slow in getting him something to work on. Since the contest was geared towards a 12 page #0 issue I had focused on that, but then had to shift gears to the four issue mini-series when the contest was over for us.
Yesterday morning I finally sent out a breakdown of the entire series with a page-by-page breakdown of issue 1, and the final three logo designs to the artist. He emailed me back today and was very pleased with everything so far. The full script should be ready and in his hands by week's end and I couldn't be more excited.
On top of that my interview with the creative team working on the Dragonlance Chronicles from Devil's Due is coming along nicely. Every one of them are great guys and fellow fans of the property. I read the War of Souls trilogy a few years back and fell in love with the world and went back and got Chronicles, the first in the vast series, and I couldn't put that book down. So when the comic adaptation started coming I was hooked.
Speaking of Chronicles, I got to read issue 8 for review for SBC last night and was completely pleased with how they handled the ending. Reading it and seeing it in comic form brought back the joy I felt reading the novel, and everything was so on point. That review will be coming soon as well.
I have some lettering work I need to get done at this point, but obviously until I get the memory I can't do any of that. I also have some web design I need to work on, but again I can't do that. So basically this has been a good break for me because it's allowed me to do more writing. Though with people waiting on me, and me waiting on my memory, it has been a bit stressful. But that's how it goes in the waiting game!
