I can't believe you recommended Connect!! I read that and I was totally apalled with that story and the execution of it! I felt it was cheesy and cheap and the ending sucked!! Even allowing for this issue being a set-up issue, they really dropped the ball introducing him as a superhero and I totally didn't get the extent of his powers or why what he could do was worthy enough to even put on the tights!! I would have rather read about his whole "secret identity" and trying to get the girl, that I thought was done nicely. The rest of it really ruined it for me.
See, I agree with you on his secret identity, and it was the better part of the story. But I thought the intro of the superhero half was done in a good enough way to intrigue you to pick up the next issue. What I got out of it was that he didn't really understand his powers or his origin any better than the reader, so we were learning together.
That said, it certainly wasn't the best writing in the world, and it won't be the next Invincible, but I thought it was decent enough.
You are definitely much more positive than I am!! I must be in a funk right now because I just don't see it. BUt I also must concede that I am starting to feel a bias against Narwain because most of the stuff that I have read from them has been unimpressive to me. But, we Wombats are known to be cranky, so go figure!
