Big Bunch 'O Nothing With A Little Something

It's been a couple of days since my last post. Not much has happened to post about really. Right now I am nursing a really bad toothache. For the moment it has eased and I wanted to take the opportunity to post something.

The Small Press Idol contest seems to be heating up finally. Several teams have announced their forthcoming entry into the contest, so it should be a fun competition to watch and be a part of. Vote for Aroquin, The Protector and The Kansas Hit!!! :)

Ronin Studios is working on a new design for their website and I volunteered to make the new forum buttons when the guy doing it had some things come up. I finished them in two days and am pretty pleased with them. When the new design goes up I'll post here so you can check out my handiwork.

Scott Simmons, the artist on my title, Wanabez, asked a couple of colorist friends if they would be interested in coloring WBZ. One of them has already shown us a panel and it matches the cover colors seamlessly, so I'm excited about that.

I landed another couple of lettering gigs. One could possibly lead to me being published at Dark Horse, and the other at DB Pro. Both are just possibilities, but solid possibilities. I'll keep you posted here.

Thanks to Jason's recommendation I checked out a column written by J. Michael Straczinsky over at Newsarama about aspiring writers. He gave great advice that was encouraging to me. While I'm not a fan of all of JMS' works, I am a huge fan of Supreme Power and I have read his book on scriptwriting (movie and tv) from cover to cover at least twice. The man had quite a journey to where he is and is successful enough for me to take the advice of!

I caught up on some issues of Noble Causes the past couple of days. Man, I'm so behind in my reading. I really enjoy this series though and will probably pick up the trades someday as I am missing a few issues here and there. I just really like the way the stories are constructed with the superhero soap opera feel. It's different than a lot of superhero comics because of that particular element.

I have been doing some light drawing as well. Man, I wish I was so much better. I really wish I hadn't given it up for five years because a lot of the patience I had for it just isn't there. I think it has something to do with my environment though, which is not set up with any particular place to draw and I constantly have interruptions or distractions. I think if I had a room with windows, a decent art table and a stereo with some alone time I would be able to get into it more. One day...

Then I think that maybe I'm pushing myself too hard. I'm trying in earnest to get my writing out there all the while constantly working on improving my lettering to get that out there and pick up some paid work. Then there's the occasional light web design or creating graphics like the aforementioned forum buttons. And I have all these other aspirations I just haven't found the time to fit in yet. Maybe I'm pushing myself, but I'm loving it all, so I guess it's ok then.

A new epsiode of Joey comes on tonight, which is strange because I thought it was cancelled. It comes on opposite American Idol, so I'll be taping Joey. Of course I'll be taping AI too because I tape every episode. Yeah, I know how that makes me sound, but I love the show and love music, so I like to listen to the good ones over and over, and pick up tips from the judges' critiques and whatnot.

Tomorrow night is the debut of the show Black White where people trade races. Should be interesting.

Prison Break returns either next week or the week after. I love this show and am looking forward to its conclusion.

I haven't heard back on my latest revision of the overview for Lab Rats yet.

Heard from my editor and artist on Eliminator the past couple of days. Things are progressing slowly but surely.

Getting close to a logo for The Kansas Hit, but you'll just have to wait until that portion of the SPI contest to see it. Now I have to come up with one for Aroquin!

I watched 2 hours of 24 last night flipping back and forth with wrestling during the second hour. I really want to get all the seasons of this show. I love the concept and the show is just very well done. I wasn't a huge Kiefer fan before this. For me his father was always the more entertaining of the two. He's taken it up to a whole new level and I love it. Elisha Cuthbert doesn't hurt anything either.

And speaking of beautiful women, it's pretty common knowledge that I have a crush on Jessica Alba, but there's another actress/singer that I have a crush on too. This girl is just so sweet, poised and adorable, and smart, but for some reason it's more embarrasing for me than the Jessica Alba crush. Why I couldn't tell you. But here's a pic of the lovely lady:

And on that note I bid you farewell as my tooth is flaring up again.

Hey, I hope your tooth is OK!

It is really exciting to read about all your work and to see you making such great strides :D I know about the DB Pro gig! :D

That's Mandy Moore? WOW!! I haven't seen or heard of her in years. Wasn't she a Jessica Simpson, Brittney Spears wannabe at one stage? Well, she is gorgeous :D

Hey Jason, thanks man, and I hope that DBPro thing works out! And yep, that's Mandy. She was a popstar at one point, but she went into acting and just got a different and unique style to her singing. She's also a lot more mature and grounded than the others I think. And yes, she is gorgeous!

Thanks, Cary, I'll try not too. And yeah, the toothache is bad, and I hate toothaches. I've had a LOT of dental problems due to a calcium deficiency, but it's been a while since I've had this kind of pain. I don't miss it!

Keep going strong there Brant, I'm glad to hear you keep having opportunities coming your way. You'll make the most of them I'm sure.

Hope the tooth gets better soon!
