Rejection #...forget it, I lost count...
I just received an email from Erik Larsen himself rejecting Wanabez. He was very nice about it though. He just said it wasn't strong enough to make it in the market. Obviously he didn't have time to go into specific detail, but at least he didn't bag on it, which gives me hope that with work or the right publisher it could be strong enough. I don't know, but it's something.
It's still in the piles at Platinum and Alias, so who knows? But man, two rejections in three days less than two weeks before Christmas...
Okay, Big Guy Upstairs, what's up? :)
Here's a glimpse at the mock cover for Wanabez:
[EDIT] - Okay, so I'm a glutton for punishment, so I asked Erik if with work it had a shot, and he says if it were close he would have suggested tweaks, which he didn't. So Wanabez has no future at Image now or ever it would seem. Sigh. I hope somebody out there likes this story.

I say so what!! How many great characters and books were passed on or rejected before they became successful or respected? Bone? Strangers in Paradise? Cerebus? Usagi Yojimbo? Any of these and more!! Keep writing and keep pitching it until you get the money to publish it yourself if you have to!! Just knowing what you do and seeing how you never give up honestly is an inspiration and motivation for me to press on!!
I reckon the pic looks sweet. If Image said no, there are dozens of smaller publishers yoiu could approach. After all, what does this Erik Larsen know anyway? lol
yep both Jason and Crazz are right on. keep going with it, you will find it a home. who is your artist on that book by the way? i don't recognize him.
Thanks for all your support, guys. You all rock!
Cary, the artist is a guy I met on CBR a few years ago by the name of Scott D. M. Simmons (www.scottdmsimmons.com). He's good people. We were in an artist jam right before the last Comic Book Idol over there, but some of our jammers made it to the top ten of CBI, so it never got finished. But Scott and I stayed in touch. His art fits the book perfectly.
