The Gonzogoose Has Landed

I have finally resigned to give the blog world a try. Several friends have recently tried them out, so I thought I might as well see what all the fuss is about. And with my website being redesigned and my column having a limited focus I needed somewhere to talk about whatever I wanted. So here we are.

So here's the deal. I've had this stomach ache for like four weeks now and it just won't go away. I get dizzy, nauseus, and very tired. I'm hoping it's nothing serious, but you can never tell.

By the way, I have lettering samples up at brantfowler.com/letters.html.

Ok, so that's the bad news (part 1) this week. The good news is I finally got my first paid professional writing gig! I can now confirm that I have a project in the works with Platinum Studios, the same people who, when with Malibu, were behind Men in Black! It's an assigned story and not one of my own, but I am still very excited! This is a big step for me and can only lead to good things (I hope).

For those of you considering working with Platinum Studios let me tell you that next to Image's Erik Larsen they are the most accessible company I have had the privelege to converse with. Having said that, Alias's Sean J. Jordan and most of the Dabel Brothers are also fairly accessible.

So most of you will probably think I'm crazy, but my 13 year old cousin is trying to raise money for me to make it to audition for American Idol this year. I'm 28, so this is the last year I'll be eligible, and the last two cities' auditions take place over the next two weeks. It will take a lot to get me there, but I honestly feel I have a shot and am pretty excited about the opportunity. I have never tried out for anything like it before, but music is my first passion of the arts, with writing a close second. I'd regret it for the rest of my life if I didn't at least give it a shot. Unfortunately I am not the wealthiest person alive and a lot of people aren't supporting me in this, even though they know I can sing (been singing in front of people for about 15 years). Oh well, this is something I have to do for me, and there is little I have ever done for myself in my life.

So bad news part 2 is that I might not get to go, and that I hate my job. I work in a call center, and I despise being on the phone. lol. Such is my life.

Back to comics. I am getting more and more into indy comics and farther away from the big two, which makes some sense seeing as how Crossgen books are what brought me back into comics after a 5 year hiatus. But once Crossgen folded, aside from G. I. Joe and a couple of Image books Marvel and DC was all I could get for a while. But I got very tired of a few writers butchering some of my favorite characters and so I dropped most of them. I do like some of the titles out right now though from both companies. But I find myself reading a lot more indy stuff, which gives me a lot of hope for my own projects.

Speaking of my own projects once more, soon I will have two web comics coming out from www.proletariatcomics.com and www.funkyninjacomics.com. The first is my own creation, which I write and letter. The second was written by the site's owner, and I did everything else. I will keep you all posted on those. I also have several other things in the works that I will share as things fall into place.

Here's a cool tidbit though. A while back my mug was among those featured in an issue of Image's Small Gods (#5). Here's a peak...

Well, I have plenty more to say, but I also have a column to finish, so I will end this first post on my brand new blog with a statement my brother has made his motto, and one I can't argue with...CHEESE IS YELLOW!
